Basket Designs by DJ has been given the amazing opportunity to be showcased on CNTV!
I started this company back in December of 2000. Earlier that year my mother-in-law sent my husband a gift basket for his birthday. It was so beautiful and such a unique idea. Shortly after that while working for the Colorado Department of Corrections I began to have anxiety and panic attacks. They were so crippling that I was unable to work or even leave my home. I began doing gift baskets for fun and they became therapy for me because as I did them it calmed my mind and lessened the anxiety. Once I was cleared by my doctor to go back to work part time, 3 hours a day for the first week and gradually increasing the hours as able, I realized that I could no longer do the job. The attacks were so bad that I couldn't even make it through the 3 hours a day much less increase them so I ended up resigning from my position with the state. As you can imaging this created quite a financial strain on our household.
I prayed about over our finances and for direction. One morning almost a year later, while flipping through channels on the television, I came across a talk show, I was never a big fan of talk shows but for some reason I watched this one. This was shortly after the September 11th attacks and the show was about living your dreams. The guest on the show was a lady who's dream was to become a singer. She worked for Corporate America and was earning a six figure income but was miserable. She described how she would be driving to her job and crying along the way. The show "Star Search" had recently aired and she had requested to be a contestant on it. One day she received a letter from the television show inviting her to appear and be a contestant. Unfortunately, her present job had also offered her a promotion which would now put her in the high six figures so she had quite a decision to make. Would she go for her dream or play it safe and accept the promotion? She decided to play it safe, and with tears streaming down her face she as she told her story, she knew she would regret the decision for the rest of her life. She told the audience to do what makes them happy and live their dream for the people who died on September 11th who will never get a chance to live theirs. After watching this show I realized that this was the answer I had been praying for so I turned in my resignation and started pursuing my dream of owning a gift basket business.
December 6, 2016 was a milestone for us, the sponsors of CNTV nominated Basket Designs by DJ to be a guest on their show. CNTV (Consumer News TV) Where Consumers tune in... and trust CNTV to introduce the "Best" of Colorado, came out and interviewed & taped my small business. Over the years I have worked very hard to get my business up & running and to make it a successful one. This milestone along with the support of my clients, friends & family may be another key ingredient to make my dream come true. Thank you all for your continued support and recognition. The taping is to air in the Spring of 2017 so keep and eye open for our next blog which will contain those details.
Merry Christmas and have a safe & prosperous New Year from all of us at "Basket Designs by DJ."
